Abruzzo is where mountains, vineyards, olive groves and the sea meet. It is a highly underrated region in central Italy, still neglected by many tourists. More and more of its wineries and olive mills offer tempting accommodations surrounded by nature.
Tema Restaurant & Relais is such a place:
Tema is a perfect combination of great hospitality in a tranquil environment surrounded by olive trees. The sea and the highway exit are just 5 minutes away, yet no unpleasant sights or sounds disturbed this small paradise during our visits.
Guests can look forward to delicious food prepared by a Japanese chef. He picks his fresh products in the lovely vegetable garden and orchard next to the main building. His home-made yoghurt is amazing. The eggs at breakfast come from the restaurant's own chicken coop.
We enjoyed very professional and kind service at dinner and at breakfast. Two charming gentlemen gave us plenty of information on house wines, their olive oil and the area. What a delight.
Our very comfortable and beautiful room was totally serene at night.
The restaurant and the 4 rooms can be booked for special events. During our 2 visits in mid and late September we had the pool and
the adjacent olive garden all to ourselves. Very relaxing.
Olive trees near the main building
The name Tema stands for Tenuta Masciangelo, an estate that produces olive oil and wine. Visitors can taste and purchase
different varieties of olive oil, plus Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, Pecorino, rosè, or sparkling wines either at the restaurant or
directly at the estate (by appointment).
